Obama's poetry as a youngn'

Did you know that Obama started out at Occidental before transferring?
Did you know that he submitted poetry to Occidental's Literary Magazine?

Hopefully, I don't think that's what he got in for. He was probably stoned when he wrote this and thought everyone looked like Apes when he would go to the underground gatherings and talk (I know he did that later in college, but I don't know if he did also at Occidental.... underground meetings were for radical get-togethers I hear).

Underground

Under water grottos, caverns

Filled with apes

That eat figs.

Stepping on the figs

That the apes

Eat, they crunch.

The apes howl, bare

Their fangs, dance,

Tumble in the

Rushing water,

Musty, wet pelts

Glistening in the blue.

The fruit they were eating were mangoes, which is commonly misinterpreted as bananas. The reason being is the dual inflection of symbolism, which represents struggle and woe.
